Projects and programs in this cluster aim to do more than just try to understand the issues and choices in their chosen topic areas. Each is intended to serve as a base to build and share knowledge -- and well beyond to encourage and support a collective search for "pressure points" or other ways of breaking the inertia that lies at the heart of all that is unsustainable in our cites, societies, and daily lives... what Michael Harrington called many years ago: "the humdrum nihilism of everyday life in much of Western society" The underlying goals in all cases: sustainable development and social justice (without which of course there is no sustainability).

Each of the programs thus far launched under this cluster are examples of international team work, using the Internet and a variety of means of communications and sharing tools, but by no means being bound by them. Each program site attempts to provide a clear explanation of how it got started and also identifies many if not all of the people and groups who have been involved in advancing the sustainability agenda in that general area. In most cases The Commons serves not as the main source, but a conduit and active supporter of those taking the initiative.

Do you have ideas and energy for these or perhaps yet others topics and projects. Let us know. That is how each of these programs got started.
